Hosted by K9 Enterprises, Shelley Smith

Date: Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, 2017.

Time: Check in at 8:30, workshop runs from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Location: Scouters Mountain Elementary School, 10811 SE 172nd Ave., Happy Valley, OR 97086

  • Working Teams Saturday or Sunday – $230
  • Auditors – $80 per day
  • Working Team one day and Audit on alternate day–$285

Working Teams: Estimating 10 teams per day (Remember, if you secure a working spot, you can only work one day of the two. You would be welcomed to audit the alternate day).

Auditing: Estimating 15 – 20 per day

Each day will focus on communication exercises needed to optimize your handling techniques for best reading and managing your dog’s problem solving skills. Working teams will receive a variety of problem solving scenarios with Ron’s direction and years of expertise to enlighten and enhance your current skill set. Auditors throughout the day will observe the problems Ron creates for the working teams and how they play out with his commentary.

For more information and details download the flyer.

Registration: Please complete the registration form to sign up for the workshops.

Note: You don’t need to pay until I have sorted through the registrations and respond back to you no later than 10/6/17 and at that time, I will provide payment information.

  • Working Teams and Auditor will be limited each day. We will do our best to accommodate you with one of your choices. You may audit a day you are not working but each handler will only have one working spot for the weekend. I have included a number of options on the registration form.
  • Mild reactivity towards other dogs is acceptable. This workshop would not be appropriate for dogs with reactivity toward people – the presence of many observers would likely be overly stressful.
  • Dogs must be able to stay quietly in their vehicles out of sight from their handlers. There is limited no shade available. This time of year shouldn’t be a problem, but if you have shade cloths in case it’s warm, please bring.
  • Working Teams and Auditors will be selected by NLT October 6th. I will be in contact with you and send you a confirmation and payment option (to be completed within 5 days from your confirmation).

Please bring:

  • Bring Lunch and personal snacks you desire. (I will supply general snacks and waters.)
  • Bring a Folding chair if desired when we work outside.
  • If bringing a dog, plenty of great treats, water and shade for your car (if warm out).
  • If you are auditing without a dog, and have a vehicle we could borrow for vehicle searches, you can note that on the registration form.

Nose Work Classes

Classes start with Intro to Nose Work.  At this level teams learn the basic hunt game using treats/toys.

We introduce the first Odor (Birch) at the Intro to Odor level.  Continuing Odor 1 – 3 levels build handler skills, team communication, and introduces search methods and areas.

Advanced Odor 1 – 4 introduces additional odors, hide difficulty & continues to add search areas.

Advanced Skills 1 -3 focuses on trial preparation.

Competition Level is the continuing level where teams focus on all levels of competition, have mastered all odors, and continue to build skills with advanced hide locations & different venue challenges.

Please contact me if you are new to the area, or have previous Nose Work training and would like to transfer to a current class.
